About 50 kids earned some extra cash Thursday when dentist Dr. Beth Keen paid $1 per pound for extra Halloween candy.
Dr. Keen gave the children flashing toothbrushes while Toot’s donated T-shirts and gift certificates. Reeves-Sain gave away soda/milkshake tokens and a Hello Kitty fan for a door prize. Businessman Bubba Hutson gave a cash donation. Roses donated bags of candy.
In turn, Dr. Keen plans to forward the candy to U.S. troops in Iraq.
National Guard Sgt. Eric Runsey, a crew chief for Black Hawk helicopters, attended the event where he talked to children while they wrote letters to soldiers.
“He said any note they got brightened their day and they had support from the people here,” Dr. Keen said.
Some of the letters read:
“Dear Soldier. We hope you enjoy the candy. Don’t forget to brush!” Sophie.
“To our troops. I hope you’re doing great! Here is some candy I got for Halloween and I thought I should share some with you! Enjoy.” Aspen.
