A large cash contribution along with an offer of medical and housing assistance by Dr. Rajesh Aggarwal, his wife Dr, Rieta Aggarwal and Good Health Medical Clinic to those who lost homes in last week torandoes has prompted a group of area political leaders to pitch in.
Representative Joe Carr (R-Lascassas), along with members from the Rutherford County legislative delegation and the Rutherford County Mayor, announced that they will be assisting in an effort to raise money, provide medical care, and place Murfreesboro citizens whose homes were destroyed in free housing. Each member of the delegation contributed $1,000 to the relief fund. “We are trying to reach out to the community and raise awareness about this, so that we can get even more people involved,” said Rep. Carr. “The tornadoes that happened last week were devastating to our area, and we need all hands on deck. The outpouring of support from the community, and even from those who do not live in Murfreesboro has been overwhelming already, and this effort will continue that support,” he added. Dr. Rajesh Aggarwal and his wife, Dr. Rieta Agarwal, have committed $10,000 to the relief fund, and will be providing free medical care at their Good Health Medical Clinic. They also own an apartment complex, where they have agreed to assist disaster victims with housing. In addition to the legislative delegation and the Aggarwals, Murfreesboro-based Greenhouse Ministries will also be lending a hand with various services. Executive Director Cliff Sharp said the organization stood ready to help any way it could. Representative Carr said he was contacted by local attorney Mark Nobles earlier in the week, who served as an intermediary between the groups. “Mark Nobles deserves a lot of the credit for serving as a point man on this effort, by bringing all the groups together to get it done. I’m just honored to be able to help my community in this way, and I issue the call for the community to stay involved and assist these families. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who were affected by these storms,” Representative Carr concluded.
Joining the Aggarwals and Carr at a check prenetation Tuesday to Cliff Sharpe of Greenhouse Ministries that will oversee distribution of the funds were state Reps. Kent Coleman and Curt Cobb and Murfreesboro Councilman David Edwards.
State Senators Bill Ketron and JIm Tracy have also pledged $1,000 each along with Rep. Donna Rowland and County Mayor Ernest Burgess.
