What is your basic business philosophy? Our business philosophy is great customer service, great prices and we believe the secret to our success is the wonderful people that work at Phase II and Trendy Pieces. We believe in a work environment full of enthusiasm and positive energy.
Give us a sales pitch in 25 words or less: At Phase II our customers love the bargains. We have a clearance center that the entire room is full of items between $1-$5.99. There are brand names everywhere! Some of our new items include bridal wear for kids. We have a huge selection of flower girl dresses, boy’s tuxes all at $49.99 and under.
Trendy Pieces is our fun little store on the Square. We love being part of our beautiful, historic community. We have very trendy, cool clothes. We carry Chinese Laundry bags, silver jeans for men and women, men’s suits, dress shirts and ties, Tyler candles, fun jewelry and the best part is our great prices.
What is your proudest business achievement? Celebrating a 20-year anniversary! I am also proud of the longevity of our crew. Most of our Phase II crew has been with us between five and 13 years.
What led you to Murfreesboro? Broad Street Center led me to Murfreesboro. I was looking for a good location for Phase II and I found it here in Murfreesboro.
What is your educational background? I attended Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky.
Where are you originally from? Bowling Green, Ky.
What do you do for fun? I have the most fun when I’m playing in the dirt. I love flowers and gardening. I love hikes in the woods with my dogs. I love home time. Traveling is fun, especially a quite beach trip. It’s the little things that matter most.
Tell us about your family: Most of my family lives in Kentucky. I consider my dogs, Spot and Speckles, my children. They provide me with daily, unconditional love.
Who was your mentor? Different mentors have shown up in my life at different phases. It’s amazing when you can stay open, the right person shows up at the right time. I had a friend in Kentucky, owner of the very successful, Beverly Hills Bargain Boutique in Bowling Green, who inspired me to get started in consignment in 1988. Mary Faulkner had been my spiritual mentor. I have been blessed with many great teachers in my life. I learn from strangers and people I come in contact with every day.
What is the most important thing going on now at your operation? Right now, the most important thing going on in our business is to provide our customers with great product, irresistible prices and great service. Our goal is to keep Phase II strong and to continue growth and development of our new store on the Square, Trendy Pieces. I realize now, more the ever, as a shopper and a small business owner, the importance of supporting and shopping small business.
